Not to be a downer but did you pull the motor a part? Cracked heads is very comon on burnt engines. If the head temps exceed 350 degs cracked heads and streched head bolts are almost a sure thing. Engines can easly hit 1200 degs in a fire. The cast iron draws the head in like a heat sink. If you got hot enought to warp the steel hood the cast iron heads have little chance of making it. Of course there is no real way to be sure how hot it got. I have seen them that I could take the head bolts out with my fingers.
I did not say anything when you first brought the car home but there is a reason the insurance company total these cars. They are almost as bad as flood cars with finding "other damage" as you go.
Holley avenger works really well on my 67. I use to spend days tweeking the old holleys. With the avenger I just bolted it up and off she went. I am sure I could get a little more out of it but I don't drive my rag top that hard anyway.

Did not know that Gorn. Good info. I did not pull it apart but I will get with my Engine guy (my brother) and see how he wants to handle this issue. I appreciate the info.

well i just found this and i looked up salvage title info. you can actually get it cleared depending on state. you will need all pictures and receipts for work done, as well as apply for a HP 106 inspection. you can get the form from a local hp office.

My Steering Column is toast. I need suggestions on new columns and/or columns that are easy swaps that I could possibly pick up on the cheap from the local auto recycler's yard.

What's your budget, besides "0"? Have you checked on ebay? Nothing wrong with a factory column, and here's one with the nifty tilt wheel feature: 1969 1970 Chevelle Camaro Floor Shift Tilt Steering Column w CC Switch | eBay

yea Slickster Im gonna be posting pics. Thats the fun part! I dont have anything new right now. But I found out today that Im getting the Dash cut out and the new Dynacorn dash that I bought welded in on Nov 2nd. after that I'll be off to the races. I'll be posting before and after pics of my new steering column that 69ér hooked me up with when it gets here, I'll be painting it black. and obviously, pics of the new dash when I get it back the week of nov 5th. the wife told me this afternoon that Im gonna have to put the powerball to the wheels and get them back to looking like new also. shes a keeper.
