Does anyone have information that would help me identifying where this engine? The casting number reads "3970014" and I believe the date code is "F 3 71"?
1968-75 350. 200 or 255 h.p. Get the numbers off the block pad that's in front of the passenger side head. The suffix code, (there as long as the block hasn't been decked) will tell what vehicle it came out of.
Some suffix codes are 2 letter, some are three. Any chance those letters could be CGC? Kind of looks like it from here. That would make it a 1971 350 (jives with the casting date), 245 h.p., 2 bolt main, was mated to a powerglide trans.
I checked that code CGC in the Chevy parts catalog. 1971 350ci 245hp in a full size Chevy (no other model) with manual trans. CGB shows up for 1971 in several models as a 350/245hp with powerglide.
The engine is mated to a 350 trans but I haven't had a chance to get the numbers off it to track its source yet.
So the next big question would be..
LS swap or build the 350?
i would like to have a streetable car/daily driver with decent power.
Well it will cost a lot less to just overhaul the 350 you have and it can be plenty reliable for sure, on the other hand a modern LS makes for a really nice daily and gets better gas mileage especially if you use a modern overdrive automatic with it to replace that T-350 It boils down to how much money do you want to spend.
