Easy, that's a small block Chevy!
From the looks of having no accessory holes on the front of the heads, your engine might be vintage to the car.

I just bought this car today, figured it wasn't numbers matching, but always exctiting to know the history when the PO didn't! thanks again for the help, gonna go back now and look for the casting code.

You'll need to get the casting number off the block (drivers side bellhousing flange) to cross-reference some info. That cgr suffix code was used on the 1971 350, and 1970 400 engine. They would not be the same block casting though, way different.
