Comments on this 68 SS/RS
Hey Guys, im not such a master on camaros but me and my father are looking for one. We came across this one though:
1968 SS/RS 350 Manual Trans, Matching Numbers with Headers and Racing Cam.
Things i notice:
-Whiteside wall tires?
-The rims look like something from a 63-65's vette!
-Missing a side-mirror?
-The engine doesn't look great.
-what are those extra gauges/meters installed?
Could you guys comment on things that i should take note of or akward in the car? that would really be appreciated!

welecome to the forums. what you have there is a 67 camaro because of the wing windows and lack of side markers. the white lines are little wide if i remeber correctly from what you could get in 67. they should be as wide as ared line but white. i noticed that there are air vents in the sides and middle of the dash. that shows that this car is a factory ac car. also the engine compartment looks original but there are some things that are not right. the air cleaner is not right for 67. also the firewall and inner fenders are all red. they should be a semi flat black, this shows that who ever painted it didnt know what they were doing. also the "stripe" in front is not even close to what it should be. it should look like whats on my 68 rs/ss. those extra gauges are aftermarket the factory did install gauges down there but they went with the lines of the consle and looked like the gauges in the dash. and the missing side mirror is nothing to worry about. they came from the factory like that. it was a dealer option to have a pasenger side mirror installed. if need any more help with picking the car apart let me know
That's...interesting..........
Looks like a great project car! All the things noted by 68SSRS with a few more to boot.
Not the stock hood insulation
Looks like like somebody put on aftermarket side marker lights...funny
Has A/C but neither the A/C or Heater is funtional
Standard Non-Power Brakes
Could be the stock intake, Oil Filler tube is in the right place
Still has the stock radio....they're terrible, but hard to come by
Looks like the stock alternator bracket
The Windshield Washer set-up is missing, hoses to the wiper pump & resevoir
Stock Standard Interior..interesting non stock window handle and arm rest
Probably had a Vinyl Top due to the trim
They cut speakers into the console & kick panels where the Astro-Vents are
It has the correct RS Hideaways, Rocker Panel Trim, Brake lights, and
lower rear valance mounted reverse lights
Missing the Radiator Overflow Resevoir and Bracket
Looks like some type of aftermarket mud guard/flare (?) on the wheel wells
Interior has all the right *****, wipers, lights, lighter, steering wheel, horn cap
Pedal trim looks correct, except for the missing brake pedal pad
More than likely the original Harrison A/C box
Missing the A/C Compressor, brackets, a/c radiator
Did somebody in the U.S. military have the car shipped to the islands? Is there any documented history on the car?
At some point somebody attempted a restoration, lots of things are the wrong color, but that means nothing.
The wheels, tire, non-stock side view mirror, garbage gauges, after market stereo (?) under the glove is all fluff and is nothing to discount this ride as a good project car.
Definitely a 67, would check the firewall tag and look for a code that says "4P" to authenticate that it is a true SS. Then check to make sure that the firewall tag matches the metal tag stamped to the body on the inside of the drivers door between the hinges.
You can buy a repro Gauge Pod for the console, all in all I say "thumbs up" if the price is right.

I am curious, if you can not tell the differents between a 67 and a 68 how is it you want only a 68 or a 69? The nice part about a 67 is the cowl tag. It lists the original options. You need to tell us whats on that tag so we can tell you whats it worth. While Ebay has leveled the values of these car some what here in the US. You really need to look around your area.
If that car was here in the states I would say 10-12K, so add some for shipping and bump it up to 13-16K tops. When I say, "add some for shipping" that would be if you bought a car here and had it shipped there. To restore that car it's gonna cost another 10-15K minimum. All your resto parts from the states will come with duty & high shipping charges unfortunately.
Honestly, if you want to buy the car, do so, but from the picture it looks like a car with more than a few issues, with my experience in restoring cars I'd have at least a 30K (30,000$) fund at hand for purchasing and restoring the old girl, 10 grand for the purchase, the 20 for building her up to a reasonable state.
Bottom line:
If you want a project car that needs a decent amount of work, that you're willing to do, buy it.
If you want a car that will need minor cosmetic parts and restoration to make it streetable and look good, this isn't the car for you.

I don't mean to "pile on" but it's also missing the headlight door chrome trim that lines up with the front grill. That drivers side mirror is not only incorrect, but it's horrible. The engine bay looks cheap, and the interior has a few cheesey emblems that are not correct for the car. Check the trim tag to see what you really have there. Good luck.
also to tell what year the body actually is. find where the vin number is located. if it is a 67 camaro then it will be on the body in front of the driver door. you have to open it and you should see it in between the door and body. if it is a 68 then you should be able to look through the winshield and find it on the drivers side at the base of the windshield.
