Hey guys...Ive been a fan of your site for some time just never posted. I have about a year left to pay off my 2010 SS and when it's paid I will finally be looking to buy my dream car a 1st Gen Camaro. I figured I would start getting familiar with what I need to be looking for and a price range I should expect to pay. Also would be very interested in some do's and dont's because this will be my first classic car.

Wanted: What should I expect to pay
*67-69 V-8 (non #'s matching unless I fall into a deal)
*4 spd or auto
*No Barrett Jackson ride but nice enough quality to not be ashame to take to a cruise night either.
*No projects 100% complete

 

Buy the best car you can afford don't "settle" for a close second--Get the color and options you want the first time and in the long run you will save money--Start looking at e-bay and craig's list to get a feeling of prices-- Buy in the fall when prices are down--Do NOT fall in love with one car a pay to much--run the numbers ie buy a black book if the numbers are important to you!! Between $15-20k will get you one heck of a decent, better than driver quality car, for instance: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro

 

Nice 69 but show only ?? and the seats are ripped and the trunk lock is poped?? Im thinking no title??maybe i'm overly suspicious??

 

I read the show only thing as it being a fair weather, drive to show type of car.
That's more than I drive mine, and I have a title for it!!!

I drive mine a lot in the summer good weather--600 miles one way to HAN tho not going this year $$$--at HAN i like to leave the bugs on the front to show i drive it not trailer it like so many others-Most i meet on the road trailer them which seems a shame to me??

 

If you do not have a good back ground with these cars you really need to get the car checked out. There are a lot of these cars that look amazing and are barely safe to drive. Most of these cars can easily be seen by someone that knows what to look for.

When buying a new car you buy what you like, with 40+ year old uni-body cars you check the structure first mechanic second then decide if you like the looks. If you fall in love with a cars looks you will over look things as not a big deal cause you want it. That is when its nice to have a experienced person who gains nothing from you buying the car to give you the straight poop on a car.

Most of the big dollar cars you see are done by well known restoration shops. These shops know their reps are on the line with every car, short cuts are never done. IF you are looking at a car that was restored by some guy in his garage it could be fine but it will never be a big dollar Barret type car unless it has a respected restoration house attached to it.

You really want a car that was restored if you are planning to drive it a lot. Survivors are nice but if you drive them in the rain the will go south very fast. The original factory sealers are a joke. These cars where designed to last 5-8 years.

 

Who drives their 1st gen in the rain? Shame on them! You DON'T even want to use a garden hose on a car you care about, but people unwittingly do.
