Default Appears to run hot?

I have a question, my temp sensor is located driver side between 1 & 3 also between the headers. Picture attached. I believe the other place it could be located is on the rear of the manifold where the blue plug is shown in picture. Gauge shows sometimes climbing close to 200, check areas on the manifold, hoses, waterpump and seems to run close 180 using an infrared heat guage. Any sugestions or dies anyone else have this issue.

If adapter/bushing being used between head and sensor, the bulb is not deep enough in reading coolant temp, its reading cast iron temp.
The more the sensor bulb into coolant, the better the reading.
also, temp will be dependent upon thermostat degree rating.
More than likely, tenp is okay.

In the cylinder head is a fine place to hook up an idiot light. But for a gauge, hooking it up to the intake manifold, near the thermostat, makes more sense for reading coolant temperature and monitoring thermostat performance. The heads tend to be the hottest running part of the engine, especially when under a load. So when hooked up to the head, you aren't reading actual "engine" temperature, you're reading a hotter head temperature.

Thanks for the advice, the upper radiator hose and housing is right over the intake plug, but there is one in the rear on drivers side of intake

I thought about that as well and was wondering if that could be a vacuum port.
