Assuming your foot is on the brake, from the transmissions point of view the only difference from forward to reverse is the front pump needs to work a little harder to create more line pressure in the trans. There is more stress in the transmission once you start moving but not before.

Maybe your tune is right on the edge of stalling and the extra 1-2 hp needed to run the higher transmission line pressure is enough to make it stall? The torque converter itself is working exactly the same forward or reverse. It sounds more like a carb/timing adjustment and less like a transmission issue.

Agree with Gorn, fix the engine tune.
BTW, the high stall convertor will act like a stock one under light throttle/normal driving.
It will just slip more than a stock t/conv at heavier throttle/load.
Expect about a 200 RPM drop between neutral and gear.

What rpm is the car idling at in park/neutral?

With a stock Cam between 650-800 RPMs. With an aftermarket Cam whatever works, I had a race car that would not idle under 1800 RPMs. Its pretty common for a 1000 RPMs on a lower aftermarket Cam.

^^^ I was asking the OP what his idle was.

He was apparently a drive-by....... One post and gone.
