69 Speedometer Question.
Hi, I've been a member for a while now, just haven't been quite as active as I should be. I'm the proud owner of a 69 Camaro convertible with factory air, 350 with a toker II intake, 650 holley double pumper, hooker comp. headers, TH350 with shift kit, and 3.08 posi gears.
I recently started having issues with the speedometer, It is accurate up to 60 m.p.h within + or - 2 m.p.h according to a police radar (perks of having a cop as a dad). The issue I'm having though is that over 60 it gets further off, and a few times the needle froze on 70, even though I was on the brakes and well below 50.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this sort of thing happen befoe? Should I start looking at the speedometer cable and see if its sticking? Or perhaps its something in the cluster? I wasn't sure where to start looking since it works up to 60 just fine.
Thanks in advance.
I'll try getting some current pictures up soon.

If your cable was sticking, the needle would be jumping. There isn't a direct physical connection between the cable and needle either. For reference, look at the pic below (not your actual speedo model). The cable drives the needle using a drum & magnetic hub setup (right above that blue cross-gear). There is also a calibrated windup spring above that hub assembly (you can kinda see it attached to the tab that's hanging down). Your problem could be the needle shaft needing a cleaning/oiling. Or the tension in the spring could be worn and letting the needle move too easily in the upper range, when the spring tension should be getting tighter (which would be my hunch).
