Default 68 front spoiler - paint it or leave it black?

I am installing a front spoiler (valance - D80) on my 1968 RS convertible. Did the spoiler originally get painted at the factory to match the car or was it always left black?

X2 on the black. The only time I have ever seen them painted is on custom jobs and then they are metal or fiberglass.

I saw a '69 with a painted spoiler a couple of weekends ago at a show... it just set off how hooptie the rest of the car was...
