68 Cowl Tag that reads LOR, any idea what that means?
After about 25 years of dreaming of owning a 1st Gen Camaro, I finaly got one this week. 68 Convertibal SS Clone. I was doing some reaserch on the Cowl Tag and found out that mine is stamped with LOR, not the typical NOR or LOS. My vin says it's from Norwood, but there is nothing on the net that I could find that identifies this stamping. Any one out there with some insight? Could it be someones poor attemt to fake a SS?

If it's in the middle of the tag, in build location "D", then it's wrong. The two plants were NOR (Norwood) and LOS (Van Nuys).
Maybe your car was half built in both places.
Your tag is probably a remake that somebody messed up. Is the (cloned) SS info on it too?

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you. I'd guess error but that's all it would be. Have you tried over at CRG? Camaro Research Group
Either way, a seller along the way forgot to tell the buyer what it is/was. Dan, what's your VIN, if you don't mind giving it?
Thanks all, Chevrolay nailed it. I guess I should have done more research. Now it's going to get ugly. I'm sure the dealer that was selling it on consignment didn't know either, well I hope he didn't.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
Still....it could be a nice car, and it wasn't passed off as an "original SS". Nothing wrong with a Firebird, only trying to secretly pass it off as a Camaro. But then, it should say Firebird on the title. Is the interior and dash Firebird too? It's way different from what a Camaro looks like. Possibly this still could have only been a tag swap? At least the thing wasn't cloned from a Ford, or something really awful like that!
The only thing is that the Vin is still a Chevy (12468N42XXXX). I called the dealer up and he's going to do some research. The darn problem is that both cars are almost identical and not easy to distinguish between the two, any suggestion would be appreciated. Oh and it is still a beautiful car whether it’s a clone or not all the more reason to deviate from keeping it stock J One more thing the cowl tag is loose, is that normal?
No, a loose cowl tag is definitely not normal. The two vehicles are similar, but it takes a lot of work to change everything on a same year Firebird to make it a Camaro. My fear is that it might have been a tag change to hide something, like maybe a stolen vehicle. It's one thing to have a number issue, but I'd hate to see you lose your money and your car if it turns out there's some hanky panky going on somewhere along the way.
