67' suspension ideas....
Hey all, looking for some input as to what suspension to put under my car. The stock one is tired and the 10bolt just isn't gonna cut it. I don't want to butcher the car as it is in excellent condition. The 4link bolt in kits look pretty good but i'm not sure about getting the travel and performance that a 4link should give. I saw a "wonder bar" and aof course the ladder bar. The truk arm suspension seems to cut up too much of the car. Any ideas?
Welcome. Post some pic's when you get a chance. I must say that I cant answer your question. I dont have the experiance in that area yet. Sorry. However, there are alot of buffs here who can help. Be patient, you'll get your answer soon enough.
I am in the same boat. I bought my 67 as it was being prepped as a "drag only". The damn thing likes to go straight! I am looking at the 4 link out back and new spindles / control arms / coil overs up front. I have been shopping around and this is going to run me about $4,200 and then some. For that money should I look at an air ride system? This will primarily be a street car with low usage.

I'm in the process of moving in the next 2 weeks, but I'll post the pics asap.
I really don't want to run an air bag. What happens when the compressor fails or a line leaks?
I would really like to drive this car as well as "run it" a few times but not on a regular basis.
I'm willing to put the bigger wheel wells in it.
The car right now has been stripped down and all of the partsare in a pile waiting to be put back together so, all ideas are welcome.

If you're asking for ideas then here's mine. Leave the rear suspension in stock form. Put good Global West "Del-Alum" bushings in the leaf springs. Put some good adjustable shocks on it. Throw some traction bars on the rear end, adjust the pinion angle and bars to the specs they give you and walk away. I should say that you do need a good working front suspension as well though.
You can easily run low 11's with that type of a setup and there is very little tuning that you will need to worry about. There are many traction bar options out there and you can spend alot of money on a very good setup but the CE ones work pretty well.
I have run and seen many a car with this setup go deep into the 11's with no traction problems.
I don' care what any company says or what any person says. 4-links and ladder bars are designed for a car that goes straight and no matter how well a system is designed "for the street" those parts will break and fail. They can't handle lateral loads on a regular basis. Great for the strip, not for the street.

instead of the original "slapper bar" set up, I'd go for the Cal tracs. I think competition engineering makes them an i've heard of cars going into the 9's with them. All i hear is good things about them and I am thinking of building my own pair since they are so simple. They run around $300 or so for the camaros.
Just to help clarify what I am trying to do.....
My "grand Scheme" is to pull the stock parts off the car and keep them for the future soif I decide to sell the car they will be there. The engine has been swapped with a early '68 327 that I've got around 450hp out of. My thought procees is to update the front end hopefully with tubular arms and coil overs with disc brakes. I then plan to use a bolt in frame connector and then I need to figure out the rear.
My only concern staying with the leafs is that I was interested in puttinginthe biggerinner fender to clear a decent tire. I see that there is a "kit" that comes with new springs and offset shackles. I don't know how strong the shackles would be or if they would hold up to the abuse. Which would be ok I guess, but I also need to get a different rear end that will hold up. I can get one from Moser but it was pretty pricey. I live in Alaska and shipping is ridiculous. The aren't any "real" salvage yards up here that have good, affordable parts. I need a good "bang for the buck".So I was thinking of pulling the 10bolt out for something more stout but affordable. This is what brought me to the 4-link. Totalcostinvolved has a 4-link that I could purchase and get the 9" rear for about the same price as just the rear from moser. So now I'm trying to figure out where to go with this.........
