I recently purchased my rs, and she arrived with the hideaways fully functioning crisp and clear. However, the driver side headlamp isn't working.

I looked it over BRIEFLY yesterday, and thought I would ask the guys who would know. After looking at them, I believe the way to go about checking the bulb is to actually take the hideaway door off, and the disassemble the corner of the grill trim, and pull the 7 inch round from the front, as I can see no easy access to the headlamp itself.

Is this correct? Hell, is there even a bulb to replace or is it a sealed system where I would just be replacing the lamps anyway?

Looking for the easy fix, but really don't
want to begin disassembling anything that doesn't
need to be disassembled.

I can find zero videos/diagrams on pulling the lamps, but a million on troubleshooting the hideaways, and even after watching 5 of those, they all leave out the part about actually pulling the lamps.

Now keep in mind my car is a 69 RS but I would think they are very similar if not exact.
All you should have to do is pull the door back to expose the headlight.
There is a metal ring bezel on the outside of the headlight secured with 2 screws that the ring slides behind, and a spring (if I remember correctly, it has been a while) that holds it all down. Remove that spring and the bezel should slide off. Once the bezel is off the headlight should fall out. Simply unplug it and go get a new headlight. And yes they are sealed.

 

Thanks man. Yeah, I was beginning to think no one was gonna reply. I appreciate the knowledge. One thing though. You can just slide the door back without hurting the oporation of the lights right? I definitely don't wanna bust a spring, lever, lock, etc forcing the door open.

No if you car is still gear driven do not move the door by hand.

If that is the case, just turn on the headlight switch and the doors will open, then disconnect the battery while you replace the headlamp. If the door is stuck shut, don't force it open. It's gear driven with plastic gears. The long pivot bolt is known to rust or corrode

 

I had pushed on the door VERY lightly and it didn't feel like it wanted to move at all, so I'm guessing I will be disconnecting the battery after opening it.
