I didn't see where, or if you said the alternator you bought is a one wire type or conventional one. Either version has an internal regulator, but they get wired differently. You have to be sure you have it wired according to the style you have.

The new alternator is an internal regulator alternator. I replaced the battery today because the battery was 8 years old i thought that might have been the issue. I didnt run it long maybe 1 minute cut the car off let it sit for 2 hours or so came back and the alternator is hot and is still drawimg power from somewhere as of right now i disconnected the battery until i can figure out where i went wrong.

I can't tell from the picture, but your blue jumper wire connects to the right side prong on the voltage regulator, when viewed from the back of the alternator. Is that where you have it?

What part number is the new alternator you received from Summit?
Yes, blue wire has to be on the correct terminal, otherwise, battery power is going to filed windings, aka a straight length of wire to ground, and this circuit would discharge the battery in a heartbeat, as felt by the hot housing.

Install the original alternator and install an electronic regulator, life will be good.

If you want to keep great grandpa's car looking original you can drill the cover rivets out on an aftermarket solid state VR, and pop on the cover from your Delco Remy original.
