Default 67 camaro new alternator problems.

I have a 67 camaro i just installed a new chrome alternator from summit racing. It has some fitment issues but thats a story for another time. It is a alternator with a internal regulator. After installed i checked the battery and it was charging at about 14 volts. I let it sit for a couple days went to go start it up and battery is dead. Less than 1volt on the battery any advice on what to do or if some of the wiring my be wrong for it to draw power?

If your old alternator did not have internal regulator (stock would not) and your new one does...you have some re-wire to do

Unless you are in to belt slip & squeal (chrome pulleys slip), put the old alt back on and charge the battery...or wire the car for a 1 wire alt

What is correct way to wire it for a one wire? What i did is take the big red cable and put it on the back of the alternator like the old one then i also ran a wire from the same terminal on the alternator to one of the prongs.

I would think the wire you jumped from the battery terminal of alternator to the prong should have been from a source that was controlled by the ignition switch. Otherwise, I think you'll have a draw on the battery all the time, running it down.

Okay thanks i will look into it and keep you updated It honestly really could be the battery just gave out it is pretty old. But i got a reading of less than 1v on it and that seemed really low like something drained it.

What was done with the original system?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
However, the suggested article is very good for explaining on how to wire in both types of internal regulated alternators.

On the orginal system the external regulator went out so i decided to switch to an internal regulator to update it a little but and get rid of some of those extra wires. Its an all orignal 67 camaro rs matching number car passed down from my great grandpa. Only has has 1 paint job. It would barley run when i got it. Eventually the whole car will be fully restored.

Good deal being from Great-grandfather.
You might consider installing an electronic regulator in place of the mechanical regulator, $18(?) on Amazon.
