so i may have been wrong the car has now lost power to everything i said it had power to before. no lights come on not even the idiot lights. i did check the positive cable that runs to the solenoid from the battery and found out that it was corroded and loose, so i replaced with a new one. unfortunately it was not the problem. i am reading 12.5V from the battery so i know thats not the problem. i also read the same from the voltage regulator. before it stopped working the car would start in park and neutral but wouldnt stay on. we were able to get that working by getting the new battery cable. But now i am stuck again...

I take it that this is an automatic trans car. If it is, be sure to check the wiring to the neutral safety switch and from the switch to the starter. It should have power on it with the key in the start position at the switch. If not, check the wiring at the ignition switch to the neutral safety switch.

You want to look at the primary fire wall connector. It is common for the tabs to break off and the whole connector to come loose. This is on the drivers side of the firewall.
