6 Speed with a 12 bolt Tranny
I have a 327 engine and I am thinking of getting a 6 speed transmission and a 12 bolt rear end. I currently have a automatic transmission.
I am not sure if this would be a good idea or not. I would like your input since I don't have much knowledge on this. I am going off of what a friend has told me.
Also from what cars would I be able to get a 6 speed trans and a 12 bolt rear end? Up to what year camaros will the rear end and transmission fit my 67 .

12 Bolt rears are GMs work horse for the older SS cars. One out of a Nova or a 67-74 Camaro will work. GM 12 bolts are pricey which is why a lot of guys do with the ford 9".
The 6 speed is a T-56. Installed in Camaros 93-02 But I think you need a LT1 bell housing to fit your 327. If you plan on a lot of Torque (400 Ft/kbs up) you want to avoid the 93 and get the 94-02.
You have picked two of the most costly addon to your first gen. I think there is a company that makes a kit for the trans convertion but with out it you are going to have to make a lot of part. To do the tranny/Kit and the rear its going to run you about 6K.

i would keep the 10 bolt. the 10s can handle mild horsepower and can handle street use with the occasional launch. the tranny though in my opinion is not needed unless you plan to drive alot of highway speeds. you could go with a 5 speed to have the overdrive gear and there are more out there and cheaper to find. a four speed is fine too but some of the muncies are getting spendy as well but you can still find them. stay away from saginaws. they are cast iron and not very strong.

Well I do about 40 to 80 highway miles per day so I would be looking for a transmission that would have overdrive. Although I may not use it every day I still think I would need another transmission.
I was told that the current transmission I have which is a Toledo Powerglide would maybe only do about 50 mph on highway. Is this true?

so its a 2 speed auto in it now. a powerglide can do over 50 but they are not a very good trans. it you stay auto i would go with a th350 they are a solid auto and can be found cheap. if you want 3 pedals then a 4 or 5 speed would do. i think 6 is overkill

The 12 bolt rear end will work fine with the manual trans. I am in the process of having my 12 bolt rebuilt with 30 spline axles, posi. true-trac, 4.10 gears, sand blasted and powdercoated. Going to use this with a new LS3 crate motor coupled to a Tremec 6 speed manual trans. The car was a 3 speed turbo hydramatic with a stock 350 motor.

67-69s are all the same. you can get everything through a camaro parts house such as NPD, year one, ricks camaros.
