I’m looking to buy a 1969 Camaro, listed as a 396 SS. The cowl tag does not have the X Code. It’s a Norwood 12A built car. Tag starts with 12437. Car has front disc brakes, 12 bolt rear. Can the car still be an SS?
If I'm understanding this CRC website page correctly, the "X" code the on trim tag was not used before the second week of December in the 1969 production year. Since the tag you posted is a 12A build date, it may be possible.
The question is, if you do not have the original engine it will not matter. There is no way to prove that is was a SS. There are so many clones out there and they have been cloned for so long there is no way to be sure on the 1969. You should not use "possibly" to calculate value. Without a fully documented history there will be no way to change possibly to a certainty.
