1969 Camaro Tach with HEI Distributor
Hi Guys. I am thinking about adding a GM or MSD HEI distributor and upgrade my dash by adding an in-dash tachometer and center fuel gauge.
1) Will the in-dash tachometer work ok if connected to the "tach" lead on the HEI distributor? Any special wiring harnesses required?
2) Is the HEI type the right way to go or should I stick with a standard external coil setup? I'm looking for reliability but want a hotter spark.
3) Anything else I need to be aware of?
Thanks for your help.

1) The tach hookup on an HEI works the same as on an old external coil setup.
2) If you're comparing HEI to points ignition then HEI is the way to go. You will notice a difference in performance, and the engine will start up with a tap of the key.
3) Mark all your wires and the rotor position before removing the old distributor, and reverse the order to install the new one.
