Default 1967 no start, no click

Hello,
Looking for some suggestions here. So after a month or so of sitting I went to start my car and I got a click, not every time but e

very other time or so. No engine turnover at all. I checked the battery connections and charge, all good. Since a new starter was only $53.00 I installed one. Afterward I got absolutely nothing when I turned the key. Checked the battery again and connections, all good. Ground strap was good, lights worked, no fuses blown (other than mine). Put another cars battery in that I had just started with the same results. Checked coil wire, starter wire connectoins and all good. Does anyone have a starting point suggestion for me? Thanks, Rob.

Thanks for replying. It was something stupid after all. It was a bad brand new starter. Took it in, tested bad, installed second new one and problem fixed. Thanks again. Rob

This is good advice to remember. I learned years ago to always check the starter for operation before installing it by using a set of jumper cables and a screwdriver to engage the solenoid . The positive cable to the solenoid battery terminal, the ground cable to the starter case and then use a screwdriver to jump between the solenoid battery terminal and the solenoid ignition switch terminal.

I had troubles on my cars with starters .Especially with headers .The solenoid would usually die from the heat. The factory one had a lot to be desired .Until I started using a Moroso one with a Tilton style starter .And with a supercharged car I haven't had any issues ,I even use it on my 1981 El Camino SS daily driver .

So now I have a new trouble. After installing another starter everything was fine. Started multiple times with no issues. Then all of the sudden I go to start it and the starter keeps cranking, even if I turn off the ignition key. I have to pull the battery cable to make it stop. Any suggestions please? Rob

You may have to shim the starter away from the flywheel as ithe Bendix drive may be sticking, or staying engaged, when starter is used.
0.020" shim might do the trick.

This was why the starter kept cranking. Shorted wire from the ignition switch. Somehow it came loose and was laying on the exhaust manifold. All good now. Thanks all for your help
