1967 Camaro six cylinder starting problems
Am trying to get a six cylinder in a 67 Camaro to start. Seems to be no spark coming out of the distibutor. Turns over great but not fire. What should I look for? There is twelve volts coming into the coil but no voltage coming out of coil. Should there be?
Yes there should be current coming out of the secondary side
IF the point set is opening up.
Rubbing block may be worn - or coil may be open
OR, since a '67, the yellow wire from starter solenoid R terminal is not hooked up at both ends - R terminal to coil + terminal, or solenoid R terminal contact is corroded,
OR, not likely, but, timing gear may be broken and camshaft not spinning.
This event induces more problems = bent valves, for one.
While point set closed, current flows through primary winding generating an electro-magnetic field about the coil.
When point set opens, current stops flowing, field collapses as it induces a voltage in the secondary coil and this action causes a spark to jump across a gap.
