My 2012 SS was beaten by a Mustan GT!!
So I just got a new 2012 ss convertible, I've had no problem outrunning G8's, GTO's, V8 Chargers etc, however today coming back from Chicago a black GT that looked stock was behind me , we both stepped on it and that thing just zoomed by me, it wasn't a shelby or a saleen, it was just a plain old GT, can my car be running slow or is it more likely that it had mod's on it?? my car is just plain stock since it only has 5K miles on it I still haven't had time to upgrade the exahust, air intake and performance chip, and on that note, what would be the best performance chip for the SS??
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Being that a 2012 Camaro SS and a 2012 Mustang GT make approximately the same power, and being that your car is about 500 lbs heavier, you should not be surprised that the Mustang just left you. As for chips, save your money, wait for your car to be properly broken in, then upgrade the intake and exhaust, and get the engine dyno tuned.

Thanks Z28Pete, that is just sad, cuz it's not like he beat me by a cars length, that darned mustang just took off, I wouldn't think 500lbs would make such a difference, we where already doing 60 MPH when we stepped on it, he must have gotten up to 100 in 3 seconds tops
500# is significant, its the reason why bolt on LS1's will hang and out run the new Camaros. Its a damn shame the 5th gen is such a pig, but the new 5.0 is absolutely no joke and will run away with ease from you.
For reference, for every 100# of weight you remove, expect a .1 second decrease in the quarter mile.

One word ... "Whipple". Let's see if a stang can run away from you with 600rwhp! ... Although there will still always be someone out there who's faster. I came up behind a guy in an older SVT mustang and we both took off and he pulled away from me. We pulled over and started talking ... He was also running a Whipple with 18lbs of boost on forged internals ... And putting down around 620rwhp.
