Default How to shift into 1rst gear??

I just bought a new 2012 1LS but I haven't picked it up yet. I have test driven a few of them, now that all 6 speed shifters in all the cars are putting reverse next to first it seems to make it hard to find first.

while test driving, i had to restart the car about 5 times because I kept stalling it in 3rd because if you push it too far left it goes into reverse but not enough it goes into 3rd. I hope i can get used to it and find first easily. maybe I just to break it in or pay more attention to how far I'm pushing it left?

It's nice it tells you your in reverse, I wish it would also tell you when it's in first. It sucks to always be stalling out.

why dont they just put reverse on the right or on the bottom like they used to?

do other people have this problem? Have you done anything to make it easier to shift into first rather than third?

Just remember the stick stays between 3rd and 4th, move it over slightly to get 1st and 2nd, if u push it to hard to the left itll go in reverse. Sit in the car while parked and just practice going through the gear motions

If you have problems with such a simple thing as that, you should have bought a Auto tranny.

How did the test drive go before you bought the car? Frankly, I wouldn't plunk down good money on any car unless I was comfortable about how everything worked, and how the thing drove & handled.

I got the car today and now realize this was a stupid post. I have it figured out, just a gentle push to the left and forward, goes right into first everytime, i was just to used to ramming it into the corner into first like th eold cars and maybe I was nervous driving a car that wasn't mine but you just have to be gentle with it. takes a little bit of gas to keep from stalling. I love this car so far. it's shifting pretty nicely.

i was going to say youll get used to it quick, my buddy has a Sentra SE-R Spec V (awesome car btw) with a 6 speed. reverse is in the bottom right next to 6th, i was so scared i was going to hit reverse instead of 6th and destroy his trans. after about 10 times hitting 6th i have no worries anymore.
