I think the new camaro is a joke and is a big insult to the origional real first generation camaro's. I think the designers with GM need to really get their act together because they are really makeing a big fool of themselves in front of ford and dodge.

My Grandfather owns a 69' Camaro SS sadly without its orginal 454 but with a 350/300 conversion convertible, and I must say that this "5th Generation" is a disgrace to what the 69' stands for which is purely American muscle. I am very disappointed by GM but what can you do except pray for a V8 5.7 and hope they don't screw that up.

I can't wait for the new Camaro to come out. I hope they re-introduce the color Hugger Orange with white rally strips on the new Camaro. That would be sweet!! I'm going to buy one as my college graduation present to myself. One thing for me to look forward to, and help keep me motivated to finish my bachelor's degree...lol.

For everyone that hates the new stlye, iagree withyoubecause it doesnt look like acamaro and that sucks, and it is a disgrace but has anyone ever thought aboutwhen they went from first gen to second gen? how many people were pissed? how many thought it looked good? it doesnt matter what you think personally, gm cares about what their focus groups, and polls tell them America likes. If you take a look around everyone is driving imports the skyline supra etc. If gm makes this car lean more toward the style of an import then they have a chance to sell more.

Those of you who think it looks good, i agree with you too i wouldnt mind driving one. Granted i still hate when gm and ford say there gonna make a reproduction of a car and then hack its style in two. If they were truly going to make a repro then they should just take the old specs, tweak them (A BIT) to the emissions standards and saftey regulations of today. THAT would be a true reproduction not a cheesy knock off named a reproduction for the sake of selling more.

So your saying that the Camaro should be a import and sport a 4cylinder and it would be more like a camaro? Ohhh and also how are you saying it should look like a IMPORT!?! Itsa freaking muscle car!

Ok, all I can say is think about how people felt when the second gen came out and looked nothing like the first... OH NO! THIRD GEN??? It looks even more different! Fourth gen looks even more different but well over look that because its fast! This one is a FIFTH GEN... not a FIRST Gen.

Theyre going to change the look just because it is a new car and not a 69. I would have to agree with the fact that the new challenger does look badass because it is a straight throwback to the classic, but mark my words, it is only going to last looking like that for three years tops and then theyre going to make it look like a new car.. Dodge is only doing that because they know they can make more intial sales with a gimick, but once people are over that, its gonna be old news.. GM is putting out a real quality product with the engineering and research behind it that any new car should have. Thats all I have to say and Im not going to argue with anyone that doesnt like the new Camaros, because nothing I say is going to change any opinions.. All I have to say to you is IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, DONT BUY ONE!

Wow...lots of opinions here...but rebuild the 69 Camaro? Get real...those cars were a POS! As the former owner of a real and original (and later modified) 69 RS/SS 350/300 convertible I can tell you for a fact what a rattletrap it was. The frame flexed, everything vibriated, and the steering was the worst you can possibly imagine due to the screwed up location of the steering box which had to be put in backwards to allow everything else to fit. Sure it was beautiful...beautiful to look at and great to drive on the freeway, and easy to steer around town and enjoy. But when you used it in the performance mode you had best be going only in a straight line and on a smooth road. Oh god...were washboard roads scarey. I swear you could see the car bending in the middle....and over railroad tracks you could see the whole car turning into a pretzel around the cowl. It was old technology, and todays technology deserves a new wrapper to properly complement the underpinnings. If you want an old one by all means get one, but don't expect it to function anywhere near as well as whatever ghetto cruiser you are driving right now.
I love the looks of the new convertible, and already have my $500 deposit on one at the local dealer. The only thing they could do to screw it up is not offer the console gauges as part of the SS package...or not offer the SS package in the introductory model. And why should a car in this price range not offer some options a la cadillac? If you were around in the 60's you would remember that the
Camaro and Chevelles were considered to be the Cadillac of the hot rods...and the Mustangs were stripped down bare bones (but good looking) cars with uncomfortableseatsand armrests,NASTY wheelhop, terrible handling habits, body roll, and crappy brakes. They rusted within two years here in the Detroit area from the road salt and it did'nt take long for the rear springs to rust through the frame or trunk floor. They were the champions of rattling and the convertible tops started ragging out after about 2 years. And that was why the Mustangs cost less than the Camaros....they were a very poorly built lightweight disposable car with a ton of ways to order the car to be exactly what you wanted it to be. Ford later added weight and big blocks to them to compete with the Camaro and Chevelle. Ford had the right idea originally because it was cheap to build your own personized car.
But flashback to the future now....for the price of what these vehicles now cost a buyer would expect creature comforts and some interior luxury. The standard has gone nowhere but up for consumer demands and the manufacturer would be destroyed by the press if they were to produce a stripped down vehicle al la 1965 mustang. Ford got crucifiedin the press on the new mustang because they did'ntevenheated seats in the $43,000 Shelby. And guess what???? They are now available.
[font=arial]GM has no choice but to produce the new Camaro as an updated and new vehicle with just enough retro to remind you of the 69. The convertible more than fits the bill. The coupe falls a little short admitedly, but its more of a Camaro than their last version was. Geez...the passenger did'nt even have a place to put their feet in it! GM is going to have a ton of competetion from the Challenger too.But if you think the Challenger looks so much like the old one you had best put pictures of them at the same angles and side by side. The original model looks like and antique compared to the new one. It is nowhere near beingthe original car other than the rearview mirror location on the door. Change is good as long as the spirit of the vehicle is there. Mustang pulled it off, Challenger pulled it of
