There is no such thing as a "best cam" , Its like the "best rear gears" It all depends on what you want, The factory spends a lot of money trying to make as many people as possible happy with cars and cam grind and engine tuning is a big part of that. Most people will say I want the most HP but reality is most do not really want that. You best bet to be happy with a cam is to call a cam manufacture and ask their rep, He is going to ask you questions then recommend a cam for you.
Think about it this way Let say you get a big cam and on the dyno you hit 550 HP at 6700 RPMs, That cam could drop 20% of you mid level HP so then your car is slower passing people on normal highway driving. Even worse is if you put a cam in and you do not have the correct supporting mods. Last thing you want is a cam that hits its max HP at 6700 RPM but your intake and headers only have good flow up to 6300 RPM. Then your in a lose lose situation. One guy will say this is the best cam ever, The first guy forgets to mention he had to run a stronger fuel pump, had run long tube headers and a 3" exhaust with high flow cats, a large CAI and a little port and polish on the stock intake manifold plus a custom dyno tune to get it all working right plus all he cares about is the ETs on the week end. So then the guy who was told its the best cam ever puts in in a stock engine and says my cam is junk. This is way more common then you think, just ask any tuner.
That is another option, if you figure out who you are going to use to tune the car first, give them a call, Find out what they like for your needs. They should be able to tell you what cam and what supporting mods are needed and what is "nice to have". Most tuners do not want to stop tuning to do a upgrade they would rather everything done before they get it. Then it is in and out in less then an hour
