Default Project 96

I got her home today. Its going to be a bit of work. This car is in a lot better shape then many I looked at. It has what sounds like a main and a rod bearing out. V6 5 speed and those are leaves on the hood. I can find no rust on it. There is a crack in one of the fenders.

Interior is very nice concidering its 12 years old

Step one will be to pull the motor. I hope to atlease start that this weekend. Since I could not find a good how to thread on pulling the motor this may become one of those.

very nice car, you cant beat a 5sp and t tops, i say rebuild the engine, it will be cheaper to do and better, i wouldnt trust a used engine you never know how it was driven and taken care of

I was going to rebuild but it looks like one main spun and a rod streched out and smacked the head. So If i would rebuild it the cost would be more then a remanufacture engine. I found a used 2002 with 29K on it for $600. They are going to throw in all the bolt on stuff. Starter, alternator etc. and a warranty on the long block. I figurehaving all those bolt-on 6 years and 100K newer would be nice.

I only paid 1K for the car in the above picture. I think it has been garage keep and dealer serviced car that was owned by a middle aged lady who was really pissed at her boy friend. Seems she let him drive the car one night and he blew the motor. She made the comment when I paid her that at least I will not have to worry about the tops leaking. In the beginning of the summer the dealership replace all the t-top weather striping and the tops themselves if I understood her right. She said it cost her more then she got for the car

With a little luck I will have a decent ride for under 2K. Not even my wife can complain about that.

Well I am knee deep in it now. Pulling the motor out of the bottom turned out of be a bit of a challange with no lift and a 1-1/2 cargarage. I am hoping my 20023.8 (50K) will be here for the long weekend.

I am having a little trouble staying in budget. I assumed $200 for beer expenses. Thats about gone and I just got the motor out. Oh well sometimes these things just can't be budgeted.
