Default VATS bypass?

Should i bypass the VATS with resistors? Or buy a "bypass module"? Or can i program the PCM to bypass with Tuner CATS?

I stumbled on bypassing by programming but dont know where to find the software for it.

Whats the best method? Ive paid for 2 new ign switches so far.

The ignition switch has nothing to do with the VATS. The key lock cylinder does.

Bypass with resistors, it's cheapest.

As above^^^, also may be that your key is worn out and making poor contact, or the pellet on the key is intermittent. If the module is bad, bypassing with a resistor won't work, and you still need to replace the module. You can also delete the whole VATS system via software if you find someone familiar with the editing software. The software change is very critical as you can wind up "bricking" the PCM"

Okay last time the dealer replaced the cyl lock and i got a new key. So a resistor could have saved that bill? A bypass module somehow does the same thing but also eliminates/bypasses the Theft Deterent Module - where ever that is. Painless wiring has a 3 wire one for $65 and Baker Electronics has a 2 wire for $35. Im thinking the 2 wire is just a resistor bypass.

Ive got steering column issues as is and it wont be long before i dig into the 2 spare columns i bought to make 1 good one. I guess what im asking is the resistor bypass the same as the module bypass? Painless wiring connects to the bulkhead/firewall connector. Maybe more effective?

In stock condition the the module needs to see the proper resistance from the key through contacts on the switch, if the module sees the proper resistance, it sends the PCM a continuous signal indicating that the proper key is being used. Upon getting that signal the PCM activates the start relay, and the fuel injectors. The "resistor bypass" bypasses the pellet on the key and connects a resitor of the proper value directly across the switch contacts fooling the module into thinking the proper key is being used. A "module bypass" is really not possible, but a different type module is substituted in its place. This type module sends the OK signal to the PCM without having to see the key resitor. This requires no wiring changes. Otherwise deleting the VATS system from the PCM software is probably the most elegant solution.
