Default no spark question

Ok, It's a 95 Z28 with the LT1, and it's been having a no start issue (only when it's cold) once in a while lately. I know it's spark related because yesterday it wouldn't start so I put a noid light on one of the injectors, and it is showing power. I then pullled a spark plug wire and no spark. So here's where I did a different test, I pulled the coil wire from the coil so it was still connected to the omnispark, cranked it over and I have spark. (coming out of the omnispark), I know, after reading some posts, I was supposed to pull the coil wire from the other end and test the spark but I didn't. What would it mean since I have spark going into the coil?

unfortunately you can almost guarantee if it won't run and you have no spark your optispark is done for. You only pull the other end of the wire to make sure the wire is not bad and it's usually easier to check at end of wire then at the coil. There are some other checks you can do. If your getting spark it doesn't sound like you have the normal optispark problem which the pickup has went bad. If the spark is not reaching the plug then either the wire is bad to the optispark or the cap and/or rotor has an issue. Again if I was going to change the cap and rotor, I would change the whole optispark if it's an unknown mileage unit because if it hasn't gone completely out yet, it's going too. Just a matter of when.

could be the opti wire harness too. the spark goes from the coil to the opti. heres something to look at https://camaroforums.com/forum/lt1-l...t-start-65637/
