Default P0171 & P0174 Car will not accelerate

Hi everyone. I've been searching through threads looking for an answer but have yet to find one. I have a 96 Camaro v6 with 176,xxx mi. On July 24, I got gas with water in it. The car has been giving the codes p0171 and p0174 since then. I also got a code for a random cylinder misfire but that only happened once and that light has not come back. I have turned the light off over 10 times and it comes right back on. The car was having issues with initial acceleration, I would put it in drive and it would hesitate until I got it past 20 mph. It has been doing this since I got the bad gas. I have also had a problem starting it a few times and I've had to push the gas to the floor while starting it and it eventually turns over. On monday, my car would not accelerate. I had my foot all the way down on the gas and it would randomly accelerate for about 3 seconds then stop. I somehow managed to get it 15 miles down to my mechanic. He has had it since then and cannot figure out what the problem is. We checked for an intake gasket leak and changed the fuel filter and that's not the problem. So I'm wondering what everyones thoughts are... maybe injectors or oxygen sensors? I appreciate any assistance with this!

Have you cleaned the PCV valve, checked for vacuum line leaks? I would think the O2 sensors are working as designed since they are indicating a lean condition. how about leaks around the injector orings?

PCM is seeing a lean condition and has reached the adjustment limit. Being that you had bad gas the fuel filter may be clogged again with water, and you may have to change it a few times. There is also a possibility that one or more injectors got clogged, or that the fuel pump got damaged and not providing enough pressure, check with proper gage. You should get the bad gas out of the tank or at least throw several cans of dry gas into the tank and see if things improve. May want to follow up by testing the O2 senors, and making sure the MAF and air cleaner are clean.

So we figured out the problem. My fuel pump was dying. The pressure on the rail was reading at 12 psi which would be why the car wouldn't accelerate and why it was showing a lean mix. I ordered an AC Delco pump online since all of the auto parts stores nearby wanted $600 - $700 for the pump. Now she's running like new! Thanks again for all of your help everyone!

12 psi? LOL No wonder you were having problems.

Glad your story had a happy ending.

Does the 96 have a fuel pump access plate or did you drop the tank?

We dropped the tank since there was no access plate. I didn't really want to cut into my car to make an access plate.

I couldn't believe it was only at 12 psi but it all made sense given that the acceleration got worse and worse and she was having major problems stalling. I'm just glad we got the problem solved.
