Default paint!

My car has been painted over the original paint. I have heard conflicting reports about whether or not I need to strip the paint. It looks like it was probally done more then 10 years ago... and it doesn't seem to be coming off. Should I strip it anyways? And if so what kind of striper so that I don't take off the factory primer?

you really don't want to get into using a chemical stripper on a car that isn't a full off restoration because it will eat away at everything and it makes a total mess also

If you use a chemical stripper everything down to bare metal will come off

the big problem with chemical stripper is that it will eat away and contaminate any existing bodywork that has been done to the car. if you're doing a full resto, your best bet is to have the car media blasted. it is the most thorough way of stripping the body and, in the long run,it really works out to be the cheapest

if you dont have any dents, rust, or flaking paint, you can paint right over the paint on it, and a chemical stripper will as said above take everything to bare metal, just get a D/A with some 80 grit and go to town if you are strippin it at your house and dont wanna pay for media blasting.

this is not true. after you build up too many layers of paint, there can be many problems that can start up over time. after anything over two coats of paint, a lot of good shops don't want to put their work on top of the old. too much to be responsible for that they have no control over

yo,if you are talking about the chameleon color paints, you better start saving your pennies now for materials. you also better find a top shelf shop in your area to apply it, because I've seen that put on so many cars, that people were so poud of because they did it for cheap, and let me tell you. it lookedliek it was done for cheap. those are very hard cars to get even coverage one. knod of on the same level as painting candies
