Some on ebay are just bulbs, but say they are HID. A true HID kit, will come with ballasts, and xenon bulbs. The ones that claim to be HID are just halogen that are painted like you said. HID doesn't have a filament, it just has a tube full of an inert gas, namely xenon. All the kits I've ever bought, have been from eBay. 9006 for lows, 9005 for highs. I haven't installed the highs yet, and if you've had HID before you'll know what I'm talking about. It takes about 10-20 seconds to get to full brightness, which may not be bad on rarely travelled back roads. But on roads, where you may encounter oncoming traffic quite frequently, it makes it a pain. The lows are plenty bright as it is. If you'd like, run a kit by us, and we'll let you know if it's a real HID.

That's the exact kit, from the exact same people. 4300K is the color I got. Silverstars are ok, but when I had them, one burned out after 3-4 months. This is when I optedfor the HID, and I couldn't be happier with them. I've had them on most of my vehicles, and they're awesome. Quite a bit brighter than everything else, and they last a long time.
