Sounds to me like the Camaro was having serious traction issues...I live in Missouri too, for the Z/28 to trap 102.xx, they should be low to mid 13's. It's all in the driver too though I guess. Your times should come down too with practice...I used to run my Lightning at KCIR and stock SRT-4's were goin around 13.6-13.8.

What were your 60 foot times? Doesn't look like either of you were getting good runs. I have about the same mods as you + stage 2 turbo kit and i've had my car in the high 12's. A lot of things can play into slower times though, track prep, weather etc. But your right it is more fun when the races are close. I either blow away a 14 second car or i get my *** handed to me by an 11 second car.

I raced an SRT-4 last week at the Fayetteville Motor Sports Park. He was mostly running mid to high 13s and he did ocassionally dip into the 14s on a bad start. I do not know what kind of mods he had but the car looked mostly stock, maybe a few bolt ons. The temp was really hot that day, track temp was over 100 degrees and there was a lot of humidity out so not the best drag conditions. Most of the reviews for the SRT-4 quarter mile times are between 13.8 and 14.2. So your car is running about where it should, maybe mid 13s with the mods you have. However I am here to disspell the rummor that a stock Z-28 should be running low 13s, gotta disagree with you here JD and Tommy. Bone stock LS1 Z-28s will run mid to high 13s mostly on the high side, I've seen it at the track and read it in many reviews. The August 1999 issue of car and driver ran the Z numerous times and listed a best of 13.9 @ 103, this was with a professional driver. The Super Coupe Club of Iowa list a time of 13.7 along with automotive performance central. John Gunnell's muscle car field guide and standard catalog of camaro list a time of 13.9. I can't find any legitament sources of a stock Z28 ever running low 13 second quarter mile times.

I just was at the track last night in Bradenton, FL and ran 13.895 with a stock 1998 Z-28 and the air was thick.

Do you drive an LS1 Z28? Because my g/f and I do. My auto with 2.73 gears ran 13.52 bone stock, hers ran 13.36 bone stock (lighter hardtop car vs my t-top car and a better 60 ft). 3.42-geared 6-speeds are obviously faster than that. The weather/elevation must suck where you live, and Car and Driver doesn't try very hard. GM High Tech Performance, a very legit performance mag, ran 12.89 with a stock '98 Z28 with decent weather and a driver not afraid to powershift. He later ran 12.97 with an '01 SS in hot weather.
JD, did you ever run your 6-speed when stock?

You gotta be kidding me, first off the hardtops and the T-tops weigh the same the only differences is in the convertibles or the V-6, and if you think that a few pounds is gonna shave 2 tenths of a second off then you got some gross concept errors. Car and driver doesn't try hard? They're history speaks for itself. Weather and elevation where I live is normal I assure you, gravity doesn't work differently for me either. Gm high tech performance is an aftermarket parts provider so why would they be road testing a stock Z-28, maybe you could give me the month and year to this article i would love to read it. And if this 98 Z-28 did run a 12.89 stock then this track had one heck of a steep downhill coarse. Maybe you should "try" harder and quit losing to girls.
