RE: killed by Saturn Sky
I like the GM Kappas (Solstice and Sky) -- even bought a N.A. Sol as a project car, but decided it would not be that exciting, and sold it. But the LS conversions are good in some ways but very flawed in others. One big problem is traction - you can put big diameter wheels on them - 19s and I've heard even 20s -- but diameter doesn't get you traction - width does, and there isn't alot one can do to get more than 265s or 275s on 9.5 or so inch wheels under the rear end -- not really possible to tub the wheel wells (rear gas tank and body structure) although I guess you could flare the fenders (ugly but effective). The best I've actually seen a LS-engined Kappa do at the track is a 12.6 with small slicks.
But the big problem is that at best you end up with a "cheap" imitation'vette. After the conversion these things weigh within a few lbs of a vette one way or the other. have a standard or modified'vette motor, a very weak rear end, and have less than perfect balance (too much weight over the rear end) - and not stability control (which, given everything, they need more than a C6 does). Things are so tight under the hood that really effective headers won't fit (most conversions use the stock manifolds simple because they are the only things that will fit, nor wilgood intercoolers and air channels fit if you decide to add SCr or turbos, etc.
I much prefer the guys who buy the blown model (Solstice GXP, Saturn Sky Red Line) and modify them for more boost. This seems the way to go: some are getting down into the low 12s.
