dont take this the wrong way, but an Ion forum would be much better for that information.
but for just hanging out and shootin the sheit about real cars this place isnt so bad [8D]
another place to look might be a cobalt forum. the redline and SS share the same powertrain, and the cobalt forums have areas for all the motors (i believe one of the cobalts comes with a 2.2). Not sure if its the same engine, but i bet it is

yea, the cobalt ss/sc and redline are same exact engine, and the base models both have 2.2s, but the middle line models are diff. and yea i know ion forum would be better lol, but i dont feel like applying to one =P lol. thanks.
The first paragraph is about the '03-'04 ION, the second paragraph is about the 2.2 offered for that year. Not sure what exactly you're wanting to know about it...
Wikipedia - "The 2003 ION came standard with a 140hp (104kW) DOHC Ecotec I4 engine. The ION's instrument panel is mounted on the top center of the dashboard, rather than behind the steering wheel. The ION is available in sedan and coupe forms; the coupe is called a "quad coupe" due to the two smaller rear-opening "suicide doors" behind the front doors.
A Getrag F23 5-speed manual or an Aisin AF33 5-speed automatic transmission were available. The 2003 and 2004 IONs were available with the VTi continuously variable transmission.
In 2004, Saturn introduced the high-performance Red Line variant of the ION, featuring a 205 hp supercharged engine, and a stronger F35 5-speed manual transmission. Stiffer springs with a lowered ride height, performance sway bars, revalved shock absorbers, Recaro racing seats, and a special ground effects package were also included. This model used a 2.0L version of General Motor's Ecotec engine, termed the 'LSJ', developed with GM's Performance Division and track tested at Germany's famous Nürburgring Nordschleife." and

First appearing in the 2000 Saturn LS1, the L61 spread throughout North American GM products, displacing the Quad 4 and its descendents.
Unlike its notably harsh predecessor, the L61 was designed for smoothness. dual in-block balance shafts were integral to the design, and all accessories were mounted directly to the engine block to reduce vibration. The oil filter was cast into the block with a removable cover and replaceable paper element.
Displacement is 2.2l (2189cc) with an 86mm (3.38in) bore and 94.6mm (3.72in) stroke. Compression is 9.5:1 or 10:1, delivering 135 to 143hp (101 to 107kW) and 142 to 152ft·lbf (193 to 206&nb
