you should be able to take her, the Turbo Beetle has severe traction problems off the line, being front wheel drive and everything.

Theres not much you can do thats cheap/free that will get you more power. I guess you could try NOS octane booster, supposedly raises it 4+ octane levels, and idk...would removing the cat help?? If all else fails, when the light turns yellow( just before you both take off), scream as loud as you possibly can(in theory, this will distract her and let you get a lead!)
