Since you mentioned it:

The "baby" LT1 (L99) was a 4.3L motor with a 3.736 inch bore and a 3 inch stroke. It had the same pistons from the Vortech 5000, it was a 2 bolt main block and had iron heads.

slvr, they are calling the new automatic motor in the 2010 camaro the L99 according to the PDF you can download from chevy...... go figure that out


I thought it was the "LQ9", but the PDF clearly calls it the l99

I thought it was the "LQ9", but the PDF clearly calls it the l99
yeah the baby lt1 was called the l99 and now they are calling the new camaro engine the same, yeah i guess thats GM for you...

I know they're calling the new one the L99, pretty lame in my opinion. With all the different combinations (yes, not permutations since order matters) of alpha-numerics you would think GM would be able to select one they haven't used yet.

that makes sense actually, because the camaro concept was originally going to be the ls2 (and therefore lq9 for auto) before they made the ls3 for the vette.

Quick question. Do the alphanumeric engine codes mean something? I am sure it does but I dont know what.

For example what does the "L" and the "S" stand for a LS1?
