why dont you put 200 shot of spray and the turbo. dude ull have a 8 second neon!
Wish I could, but with a FWD, you get to that kind of power level, and you just spin the tires all the way down the track. Weight shifting off the drive wheels, instead of onto them makes ridiculously fast times really hard in a FWD. Besides, the turbo I'm using is only good for around 375 whp. I'd need something like a GT42r to make enough airflow to make that much power, and then swap to an auto trans, seeing as it would take like 5 seconds between shifts to build boost back up.
I'll never get the car to that point. Just too much work for not enough gain in a neon. If I wanted to stay 4 cylinder, I'd do an EVO or STi or something, but most likely, I'd find an older car with tons of room under the hood and build a F/I V8. A Camaro comes to mind... heh

theres nothing you can do to help the spinning? like maybe some slicks or something on the fronts. i dunno.

Of course, but 900 hp going to the wrong tires just doesn't work. Even slicks are still spinning at 100mph.

There's actually quite a few people doing a lot better than I am out of neons, but in 03, Dodge decided to change all kinds of stuff in how the engine is controlled. Makes it quite a bit more complex that just throwing big injectors and a rising rate fuel pressure regulator at it. A good friend of mine locally is making low 9s out of his. But for an 03+, mine's the fastest in the world from what I've been able to find. I've been digging quite a bit too. I can't find anyone else that's conned a 13 out of one.
As far as the dyno sheet, the peak torque looks good and all that, but the stock cylinder head is so restrictive that I just can't get any boost into it at high RPM. I'm going to try a cam in the next few weeks to see if it opens it up, but you can see that by 7k, I'm only making like 130 ft/lb. If I can flatten out the torque line, the car will be happy to make 12s with some traction. (2.2 60' times are all I've been able to get out of it with street tires and the open differential.)
If the head is the problem why are you trying to open it up with a cam? Invest the money into a good port/polish job on the head and intake and see what that does. Typically you get power all across the rpm range when you get the heads to flow better, a cam will probably only buy you top end, and even then if you can't get anymore air through the head it's not gonna get you much. Just my .02

Well, the limited lift of the cam is the part of the head that is causing the most restriction. I'll eventually do a P+P job, but the stock cam is designed for comfy test drives, not peak power. It's what's hurting me the most.

Stock cam- Duration - 207/229 - Lift-.283/.276
Cam I have laying around - Duration - 212/229 - Lift -.344/.315
Crane 005 - Duration - 244/256 - Lift -.400/.400

I'd do a crane, but there's quite a bit of overlap in it, so it's not nearly as good for boost as the specs make it look. But you can see that the one I'll be throwing in whenever I have the time will do quite a bit for me. Especially in the intake lift side.

This guy knows what he's talking about. Don't care to much for the neons but you make a pretty good argument and 13's are good for any car. This makes for a great post and anyone can learn something from it. All of his info is based on what he's actually done and he's showed us a dyno and a vid to show us that he does. You can't make up stuff about engines and performance with out someone who really knows catching you and calling shinanigans. Good post!!! Hope you do your 11's!!
