Default 96 3.8 vs 80 5.0

so one of my buddies has a 1980 mustang 5.0.. he doesnt really talk alot of crap but he has said he would smoke me once.. i just wanted to kno what my chances are here.. .. i have a 1996 RS 3.8l.. stick 5 speed.. his is automatic.... if we were to race wat are my chances of beating him?

See the raced a 00 mustang post for info. But here you go.
First off his car is 16 years older and if it’s pretty much stock it’s probably filling its age. It is also a carbureted year not a FI if he is still running the stock intake manifold and carburetor you stand a very good chance a matching him. The automatic GT’s are almost a half second slower then there 5 speed brothers this puts the advantage back in you court. Stock for Stock if both vehicles are in the same condition it’s a driver’s race but you should be able to take him on the street and on the track he should be runing low 16s to your mid 15s. you got him. as long as it's nota PI GT youll be fine.....(99-05+)

sn95's GT's are usually a drivers race with are 3800's.
