I call bull****. My Corvette stock had a hard time keeping up to and beating a stock R/T. And I got smoked by a SRT 8 same day.

the stock RT's are high 13 second cars. 375hp split between 2 cars worth of weight [&:]. ur vette should have handled that.

i just found some figures. 14.5 @ 97mph. while u cant trust ET's, its hard to miss a trap speed and that thing is trapping right around where an LT1 should, so all things being equal thats a good race.

hey guy with the vette, how are you gonna call bull**** on me i was right there. the charger is a very big bodied car with a 5.7 and i got a lighter car with a 5.7 and boltons and if that vette had a hard time keeping up with a family car you might want to get a camaro.[8D]

I didnt say I lost to him, but I didnt beat him like I beat my sisters 02 Camaro all the time... Or any of my friends in the firebird club. at the end I was about 4 lenght ahead of him at 110 MPH, And I still say bull****, You can call it a "family" car (R/T) , but my GTP will smoke your camaro... And its a "family" car 4 door as well. The R/T has 345 HP, and a curb weight of 3700 LBS, your running a pretty much stock LT1, so not much more than 300 HP tops stock was 275HP, and weighing in at a bit over 3400lbs...Your 0-60 should be in the low 5 second range with your mods, his stock is about 6 flat, but they are not an off the line car, they are a mid to high range car, so from a 70MPH roll, he wold have taken you, unless you have like 2.23 gears or somthing. cause they come stock with a 3.08.

curb weight 4100lbs from everything ive seen, and I havent seen very impressive times from them anywhere, not even dodgeforums.

and it appears that you have fallen victim to one of the most common seemingly logical assumptions in all of cardom.
so from a 70MPH roll, he wold have taken you, unless you have like 2.23 gears or somthing. cause they come stock with a 3.08.
a lower gear ratio WILL NOT help you at high end. the problem starts when people say that a higher ratio will reduce top speed. this is true in theory however not many cars can redline their top gear, so most cars actually improve their top speed with gears like 4.10s because the motor has a better mechanical advantage over the drag, so to speak.

with taller gears your call will pull harder at EVERY speed at EVERY rpm, the only difference is that the speed at redline in top gear is reduced because the motor will be at higher rpm per gear per mph than it was before the swap. just think for a couple moments on what you are actually doing when you perform the swap and you will see this has to be true. the tranny gears stay the same, so why would it pull harder in a low gear but be weaker than before in a higher gear? that makes so sense.

the only disadvantage to this is that it puts you into your overdrive gear sooner, but not at the speeds were talking here, he would still be in 4th i believe even with 4.10s.

the rule is, when upgrading to a higher ratio rear gear, 1st will pull harder than old first, 2nd will pull harder than old 2nd..... 6th will pull harder than old 6th. your mph at which you shift changes, but you by no means slow down, because the next gear has more grunt than it did before the swap

Ive done a lot of gear swaps, and in therory you are correct, but my Vette has 2.23 gears in it now, I had 3.23 when I got it, aand I notice a drop of acceleration in every gear exept the top 2, I gained a lot of pull high up, and my top speed climed about 14 MPH. I now accelerate faster from 70 MPH to 140 MPH than I do from a dead stop to 70 MPH. gears make a HUGE difference, else no one would make afermarket setups, and the drag cars would all run higher gears... hence why Stock cars have a 2.23 or a 2.73, versus having a 4.10 or 3.73...

same is true for my fathers 67 SS, he has a 2 speed powerglide, and 4.10's, his top speed used to be 160 MPH when he got the car with the same tranny and 3.73, now most he can do is 120 MPH, but he gets there about 8 seconds quicker than he did before...its a constant hard pull till he is out of RPM's where as at 120 MPH before he had about 1500 RPM left...
