2011 Mustang
I know this is a little off topic but I wanted to see what you Street/Strip guys thought.
I have been seeing more and more reports about the 2011 Mustang GT getting the 5.0L motor that will have 400hp/400tq.
Mustang's curb weight is going to roughly stay the same around 3600lbs vs.the Camaro's curb weight of 3800 to 3900lbs.
So how do you think the 2011 Mustang against the 2010 Camaro?

well if it does get the 5 liter i think it will be a close race maybe even down to the driver.it would be nice to see two rival cars will relatively close cars.i did see it in either road and track or it was car and river but i didnt like the new look it was too round looking.

Hard to tell, in the 1/4 it might be a close race. But on a road track, the Camaro should shine. Independent rear suspension, and close to a 50/50 weight balance (something like that).

u guys need to keep in mind the speculation about that same motor for 2010. everyone was damn sure it was gunna be there to the point that people at MF were posting threads to the tune of "u better watch out camaro guys!! arent u all scared of the new mustang??"
and then what happened?
u guys got like a 15hp boost right?
lame

There has been a lot of talk about the return of the 302. Of course it will have nothing in common with the old 302. The current 3 valve 4.6 is not a bad engine but with the LS3 and Hemi pushing over 100 more horses she is a little out matched in power.

Yeah I agree with you Specter about the speculation but it is going to happen sooner or later. I work here in Detroit building control systems for the Big 3 and we are starting to work on the tooling for the 5.0 motor. Whether or not they put it in the Mustang remains to be seen but I don't believe Ford will build both a 4.6L and a 5.0L motor at the same time, it just doesn't make sense.
What would you expect people on MF to say "we are going to get butts kicked by the new Camaro" - unfortunately there are morons on every site. We have a good amount of LS1,LT1,SRT4, and Cobalt SS owners on MF that get plenty of respect.
All I gotta say is that if it does happen it should be pretty darn close. If I remember correctly the base V8 will make 400/395 and the SS will make 422/408.
I like both cars and each has there own advantages. I didn't post this start a bunch of crap, I wanted to get a different take on what everybody thought.
