Default 1997 SS vs 1998 SS

bone stock 98 SS vs 97 ss with headers, loudmouth exhaust, 1:6 roller rockers, MAF, 58Tb, hypertech tune, 3:73 gears, b&m shift kit, msd pro billet opti, 8.5 wires, k&n filter 94000 miles on it. the 98 has 20000 and is completeley stock both cars are auto. whod win in 1/4 mile and by how much.

my opinion the 97 is gonna walk you like your 98 on a bone stock honda civic. the only difference from a 97 to 98 is the 97 has the lt1 still and the 98 has the
ls-1. and stock time the difference is very minimal. so if he is modified with gears and etc he probably runnnin low 11's to low 12's all day long depending if he really knows how to drive.

To start off, the 97 is a high 13 car stock, the 98 is a low stock. The only mods that actually make more power on the 97 are the rockers, headers, tune and maybe the TB and MAF add a tiny bit, the gears will help if ou can get it to hook. So the 97 will have to make up at least 1/2 a second, or about 5 car lenths in the 1/4. I am going to say that whoever gets the best launch will win here. The 97 has the potental to be in the high 12's but it will be all about the hook, LS1's can hit 13.0-13.2 pretty easy and have even been known to dip into the 12's under the right conditions. Good luck and keep us posted.

I think that site is BS. 50 fastest muscle cars and the fastest one only runs a 12.05? Is that the 50 fastest muscle cars ever? I don't think so. A newVette Z06 is faster than that. Look at number 13, 1990 Firehawk putting out 350hp running a 13.20? That isn't stock. 1997 SLP Camaro SS with an LT4? They come stock with LT1's. They might have run those times but they are heavily modded.

I have never seen a stock LT1 SS run better than a 13.8 and I am at the track at least three weekends per month. I am just going by what I see, not what I read on some site. I still think it will be a drivers race, but there is only one way to tell, let us know the outcome.

yeah I use to have a 94 z28 lt1 motor with moroso cold air induction, 373 rear end, performance chip. I had an automatic and launch it very well, but still the best time I ever had was a 13.8. This is alot more mods then the 97 ss Lt1 stock. There is no way any stock lt1 can run 13.8 SS or Z28 impossible. These cars stock are low 14 sec cars. I was at the track with four guys who had lt1s with minor mods most were still around 13.9-14.1, after modifications. Stock 2 of them ran mid 14s. The ls1 is a half a second faster then any stock lt1. The lt1 might take him until 40 or sodue to the gearsbut then the ls1 is gone no questions asked!!! The top end on ls1s are a whole lot better , then lt1's. If they run ina quarter the ls1 will win guarenteed. Maybe if the lt1had a 4.11 rear end it might be a different story!! O by the way I want to no who ran high 12's with a stock ls1. That is impossible too. 03-04 cobras run btwn 12.612.9 stock. They have a whole lot more power then ls1's no way in hell could a stock ls1 trans am or camaro run 12's im at the track alot and have seen a lot of good drivers not one has ever hit 12's with a stock ls1 car. Sorry only speakin the truth!!!!

Evan Smith ran a 98 LS1 to a 12.8 sonthing, it was even in a Mustang magazine as well as GM High Tech Performance. The LT1 SS package is just like the LS1 SS in that they really don't have anymore HP than a regular Z/28. I'll see if I can dig up the article.
