I like rockauto, but I hate waiting for shipping. I have a really really good discount at advance (5-10% over there price, usually about 50% off) I also buy quite a few parts off amazon.

So the car is surging at idle, at first I thought it was the rockers but I adjusted them with no change (.007" between the rocker and cam lobe). The timing is perfect (15° btdc). Could it be because the gas is kinda old? The kid filled the tank and drove about 5 miles and blew the motor, that was back in early june.

I really doubt it's the gas. That sounds like an air/fuel management issue, not an octane issue.
What happens when you unplug the IAC?

Haven't tried that, I googled "engine surging" and bad fuel was one of the suggestions. I'll try the iac tomorrow.

I'd say the "surging" help you were finding was likely in reference to bad gas causing the engine to bog.
Yours is acting too rhythmic, like it's cycling rich-lean-rich-lean. Something there can't make up it's mind.

Did you rebuild the whole engine, or just work on the upper end? Did some of your coolant disappear on you?
