Nice job on the wheels. Saw this Chevy at a cruise nite in Shearwater while visiting my daughter. Made me think of you and thought you might be interested in an "Eastern" version of a gasser. I enjoy reading your posts. Reminds me of working on some of my past cars. Now I just enjoy driving my "turn key" 2010 SS. Had it to the drags and 3 kilometre road course. Sure is an awesome car for speed, braking and handling.

That old Chevy looks perfect Bob! Looks like it could have easily been an old build, or a well done recent that matches the 60's look!

Looks like I'm going to be making some heavier removeable links for the ladder bars! I was cleaning underneath the car yesterday, and thought I'd remove the links for street driving. They were bent up like a pretzel from the hard launches at the drags!
I'm going to make them out of some heavier material, but also use angle iron, so they have more resistance to bending. Amazing the torque that the pinion puts on the bars under hard launches!

Yep! Those old W motors were definitely big blocks!

I love em they are a hodgepodge though if you have ever worked on them. Parts from a small block, 65 and later big blocks and unique 348-409 stuff all in one motor

The head design on the W motor was a improvement over the SBC design, but still not what the BBC is. I always wondered why Chevy would have designed a motor and used it for such a short period. They've typically been pretty good about coming up with long lasting designs.

its just the evolution. they wanted to be able to get a little more rpm of the motor which was one of the w motors weak points. they were just experimenting and the 396 was a big improvement over even the top dog 427 w motors in the 63 z11 impalas

Yeah, even the 427 Z11 was still just a larger version of the 409. It made a big impression on drag racing, but not nearly what the new 396/427 engine made when it hit the drag race scene! The 396/402/427 BBC have always been my favorite version of the BBC engine.
