Default *******Northeast Rod Run*******

Hey guys, we just finished our first annual Northeast Rod Run last weekend (Oct 4-6) and it was a huge hit. In our first year we had cars from MA, RI, NH, and NY. There was everything from a 1937 Chevy to a couple of 2008 Mustangs.

The inspiration for this trip came from The Hot Rod Power Tour.

The Northeast Rod Run is a 3 day cruise that goes throughout the eastern U.S.Whereas Hot Rod has to cruise on mostly interstates because of their massive size, the Northeast Rod Run can take more scenic and rural backroads and secondary highways where the scenery is better.

For example, this year the run started at Mt Wachusett in Ma and then went up the Connecticut River Scenic Byway in VT. From there is crossed into NH and went on into North Conway via the Kangamanus Highway. The next day it went up into Bar Harbor, ME and into Acadia National Park before the return trip home down Coastal Route 1.

Here are a couple of links to the Northeast Rod Run:

If any of his looks interesting to you, send an email to the Yahoo address on the Myspace page and you will be put on the list to recieve info and updates throughout the year, for the 2009 trip.

Keep in mind that this is not a professionally organized event. There are no organizers or fees. It is just one person setting this up for fellow car people to get together for a weekend of cruising and good times. A lot was learned this year and that will only make next year's trip that much better.

The dates path for 2009's trip have been set.

The trip is going to be over the weekend of October 3-6 and it will start in Mid/western MA, travel up through VT (probably within a few miles of the Canadian border)and over into upper state NY.

make sure if anyone is interested, to send an email so you can be kept updated on the details

Well, with the first big holiday of the season behind us, I've finally had time to sit down and put together a few details for all of you to see. As it was last year, and will be every following year, this year's trip will be three days long and it will be over the first weekend of October again. We will be leaving on Saturday, October 3 and returning on Monday, October 5. This way most people will only be missing one day of work and we won't have to deal with Friday morning traffic.

Same as last year, the only requirements I had for the trip, was to try to find good cruising roads and not to worry about being on too tight of a time schedule (although we are going to have to be better on our starting times each day then we did last year). This year it is going to include Wachusett Mountain in Massachusetts, Skyline Drive (Its the longest paved hill climb in the world) and Granville Gulf Notch (it's about 60 miles in length, which is comparable to the Kangamanus Highway) in Vermont, The Lake Champlain Byway, Whiteface Mountain, The Veterans Memorial Highway and Lake Placid in New York.

These don't show everything, but here are a few links you can cut and paste, so you can get a bit of an idea of the trip:

http://www.whitefacenewyork.com/

http://www.whiteface.com/newsite/summer/highway.php

I am still working on exact details and stops for the Hotels, but I might have something pretty cool set-up in New York. I will have better details on that stuff after Christmas.

most of us have our rooms booked for the 2009 Rod Run already, because it is hard to get hotel rooms in the Northeast that time of year because of the foliage. I thought I'd get more interest on this froum, about 2009's trip, but I guess I was wrong

I posted a video of last year's trip in the Sights and Sounds section of the forum. go check it out
