turn a turbo into a supercharger?
so my friend has a decent sized turbo charger laying around his livingroom which he want to get rid of, he says $50 and its mine, or he'll throw it on eBay starting at $100, now throwing a turbo into a 78 camaro looks like its just more trouble than its worth, but i was thinking, could i possibly take off the exhaust housing on the turbo, replace the fan with a pully and have myself a belt-driven supercharger? this way i dont have to mess with my exhaust set up and all that jazz, plus if it doesnt give enough boost then i can just take it off without getting new headers and junk, anyone do this before? anyone think it will work? lol
A belt won't be able to drive the impeller fast enough. Centrifugal superchargers, which is what you are trying to build, use much larger impellers and internal drive systems (gears, *****, etc.) to get the impeller to spin fast enough to build useful pressure.

I have to admit though, the thearey behind it was a good idea. never hurts to try something new and asks about it. You could have been the first Supro Camaro.... regardless if it actually took more power from your car than it gave it.
A centrifugal SC is what you would end up with if you tried to make one, they have drive ratios of 4 to one approximately, but they are designed to spin slower than a turbo, so that being said you would need a drive ratio of about 9 to 1 to make it work properly.
