go on ebay and search "wideband lc-1". its simply a tuning aid, nothing more, but u will be buying a new motor if u go FI without tuning.

as for kits, call some places. talk to vortech or procharger if u want to go supercharged, which i would reccomend. or search around some turbo companies, turbonetics, greddy ect. see if anyone sells a carb smallblock kit. if not call the company and see what they would reccomend.

the install wont be too horrible if u have a little mechanical knowledge. the tuning will be tough, especially with a turbo on a carb car.

You said you wanted something cheap?? No forced induction setup is gonna be cheap!!! I bet the absolute least is... $1500?? Thats for like a really ****ty kit, I mean. But a good one will cost a lot.

I was wondering why don't I see any of the regular members here running turbos or superchargers. I mean most of you guys have a bunch of mods, and many of you have nos, but not turbo or sc. Why is that? Is it not worth the money, or do you just dislike it?

aHA! finally a good question on the subject.

Here is the deal, every month, about 5 million (give or take) of these "S/C or Turbo and how much" threads come up. with just shy of 100% of them never going anywhere. Adding forced induction on any car is a major undertaking. you have to get all the parts, make sure everything is just right, possibly rebuild your motor unless you want to run 5lbs of boost (boooooooring [&:]), tune, and retune until everything is right. its never as easy as just slapping a turbo on and turning a few bolts.

The builds are expensive and take alot of know-how. We get alot of newbies (i was guilty of this when I firstgot my old mustang too [&o]) who say "hey, ive got about 2k in the bank, and id like to either SC or TT", and once they look into it a little more they realize just how unrealistic that is. On these cars, boltons and cams will get you just as far as any forced induction will on the stock internals. you need to lower compression before you go any further (but there are a couple guys on ls1tech with single turbo setups on low compression high boostrunning 9's in street cars. i want one ). but those are full motor builds, and thats what you need to do to get to that level.

Another reason these threads never really go anywhere is because of the nature of FI. you need to know what your doing before you go in or you will break stuff. A good rule of thumb is anyone who needs to ask "what do I need to do" isnt ready, and these threads just serve to discourage them until they learn alot more. And most people, trying to satisfy their go-fast needs will start doing bolt-ons

hey specter.. kinda branching of the FI thing... how come you never see LS1s stroked to like 383? a 383 stroker LT1 is much more adventagous than a SC'ed LT1(and yea i know stroking a LS1 is getting close to bascily a LS2).

and how come you never see FI on a stroker? i know that a stroked engine cant run as high in the RPM scale, but a s/c(preff procharger so no manifold pressure) is best in the low RPMs.. i mean most stroker kits come with forged parts and all.

most FI setups run towards 3k for just the turbo and tubing(if they make tubing for your car...) you still need fuel system, internals(usually) to get it installed(if no tubing for your car), and of corse tuned and everything(not a need, but best to do). all that being said. your into about 6 or 7k.. unless you do like a low boost setup, that you know the stock internals and fuel system can handle( like specter said 5-9psi, and prochargers good for this, 3100.00, make about an extra 90HP.)

actually, there are 383 kits for ls1. and there is the LSX, which is a non-sleeved ls1 block, people have bored and stroked the LSX out to a 427 small block. These are usually not street cars. I think the reason many people dont stroke is you can make a 500rwhp car with a good set of aftermarket heads and a big *** cam.

there is a procharged (or at least centrifugal) 427 stroked ls1.

why do u say procharger has no manifold pressure? its a centrifugal supercharger, so it compresses the air about a foot and a half away from the manifold, so all of the piping from the SC to the heads is pressurized. This is why many big blowers are roots or TS, because some of the big boys actually replace the manifold as to contain all of the pressure. pressure that would blow these plastic intakes apart i would guess [&:]. Prolly why the dude in the link has that giant chrome dome on his motor

well, i ment a spindal type(pro, turbo) isnt as much as a bolt on s/c( well it is, but like not as direct).

thanks.

that would be the type, but they still have manifold pressure even if they dont bolt directly to the manifold.
