turbo charger questions
im really new to all this,i was just wondering if someone could give me some tips on turbo charging your engine, say you got a 396 v8 how much extra horses is a turbo/super charger going to give you? and whats big blocks and small blocks and stuff? sorry if i sound really stupid im 18 and im just interested in saving up for a nice old car and do it up for a hobby or something.
If i wanted to add like 100 horses, what would i buy and how much would it cost? and is it possible to turbo charge a 69 ss?

RE: turbo charger questions
With money and time anything is possible. But you are asking an open ended question which is very hard to answer. You need to set a goal. How much power do you want? Small block V8 or a big block V8? You can get 396 CI from either one. Supercharging and turbocharging can produce very bigpower, but you need an engine and chassis that can handle it.

RE: turbo charger questions
depends, you can pick up a bare block (small or big) for a couple hundred bucks from a wrecker, which would be the place to start since if you have plans or force inducting the engine, the components you build the engine with will need to be designed for that.

RE: turbo charger questions
A average of horse power increase is going to be around 50% of origanal built motor. Is this going to be street and strip or just street. If you are wanting street only I would suggest supper charger. They are alittle easier to set up. If you want street strip set up I would suggest the turbo or turbo's with a good boost controller, that way you can set what boost you want for each situation. Turbo systems are alot more money, but produce a bunch of power every RPM range. Super chargers have more limitation. No matter what though you need to have a tartget goal in mind and build the engine to that goal.
Like all forged, and low compression 8.5 for big power adder and the more compression the less boost should be added, and count on intercooling.
I ran a LS2 2002 tiger shark corvette Sema car from technoinnovations who do all gm sema cars. This beast had 1200 crank horse power supercharged custom ati set up. It was awsome but extremely expensive. Hope this helps alittle do you research before spending money. Its always cheaper the first time, than the second or third. And remember what ever you do to the engine do the tranny rear and brakes, cooling. Once You start it is a chain reaction.
