Cost estimate?
Hello,
I recently got a 1998 Camaro 3.8 V6 with all stock parts. So far I haven't modded it in any way and am saving up for parts. However being new to this (first car) I have no idea how much would turbo/super charging it cost and what additional mods would I need to install. I am looking to boost my hp from the current 200 to around 300/320 at the cheapest (but safe) way possible. Any tips or pointers where I should start looking and what should I expect pricewise?

to get that out of a 3.8 is a serious rebuild. everything has to be redone. then juice it or supercharge it.an extra 125 h/p is more then half of what the stock motor has.
so it would prolly cost around 10 grand for the supercharger build and around 7 grand with a 125 shot of nitrous. (high performance parts+ labor.....)
that is if you redo your motor...........................

probally round 210RWHP(250 crank?)
full exhaust, intake, nice cam, thermo.
exhaust should be bout 10hp, intake prolly 5 or so, thermo and chip prolly close to 15, cam(if you can find it for the 3.8, found on 2 or 3 sites) prolly round 20.

if u want to make a v6 a v8 killer, there's a nice site, www.turbov6camaro.com i beleave. he's only spent round 15k on his, and making close to 500RWHP. there's another dude too, that did a stroker 3.8 N/A engine, dont know what he made or how much, but he's a 11.9-12.2(if memory serves right) second car.
all the parts arent that much, it's getting someone to do it, for cheap. best bet would be to send the engine off to someone.

i read it can handle 9-10PSI stock internals, even more if fresh engine and done perfectly. was reading something, where they gave a 3.8 as much power as they could till something happened, they ended up reaching like 580HP before it blew, so actually it could prolly make 400-450, while daily driven. F/I is just hard any engine. to bad it's basicly only way to make real power out of these motors.
most of ur F/I engines only last till bout 120kmi
now if ur's is standard. the stock clutches can only take bout 250.
i would prolly do all bolt ons first. and make sure ur engine is up to handling maybe, a 75-100shot of n2o?

do bolt ons first intake, exaughst headers high flow cat LS1 drive shaft that will put you in the 230s aprox to the crank from there i look into supercharge that way youll have some gains beofre the charger but once it on it wont make you go boom even if you push the boost window a bit
Mine is an automatic. Should the transmission still be able to handle around a 50hpw boost? I think I will start with the air intake, exhaust and headers, and then work my way as my budget grows.
