transmission change 67 camaro
i purchased a 67 Camaro with three on the tree. The 6 cyc was already removed but the column shift is still there. The car has 3.55 gears in the rear posi with a 350 SBC.I want to convert the car to a floor shifter 4 speed car.The confusion comes that i don't know which transmission matches the 3.55 gear well. I would like to have a nice ratio in 1,2,3 in a four speed tranny to make it fun to drive.

A stock SS with a 350 would have come with a Wide ratio muncie M20 and 3:55s. The close ratio is more of a racing transmission. I have no way of knowing what you consider nice but GM assumed the wide ratio would be better liked by the general public.

You can take the column shifter out And replace with a regular column. The first generation Camaro usually came with M-20 (2.5 to 1 first gear) .M-21 (2,20 first gear.)The M-21 is not a racing transmission only. But Can be used for racing. You can also use a Super T-10 4 speed (2.64 1st gear factory.2.88 aftermarket.) Besides what ever transmission you buy.And a Hurst shifter.Clutch ,Pilot bearing ,misc parts You already have the pedals The drive line will work with the Muncies,You will have to change the yoke for a Super T-10.Its bigger. Good luck to you.
