Starter help
Hi everyone, hope someone can help with a starter issue on my brother's fully restored 68 Camaro, richmond 5 speed standard, 350. Car always ran well for the last ten years with no issues. The other day we went to start it up and the starter gave a heavy solenoid click from the starter area which we thought nothing of until the battery started smoking and almost caught on fire. Luckily we we're able to disconnect it in time before any damage occurred, we think. We pulled the starter out and it seemed frozen and the cause of the short. After replacing the starter, testing the battery and giving it a full charge, now the car wont turn over. On the first try it made the solenoid click again (new starter) and now nothing. Checked; neutral saftey switch, ignition switch, wiring (my brother is so maticulous about everything you could eat off the battery tray) starter connections cables are new. it's really a brain teaser. All other electrical works, lights, dash, etc. My question, is there any part of the electrical system, voltage regulator, horn relay or something else that could cause this. We are out of ideas and can't seem find the source of the problem. We've done all the usual tests. Voltage from the ignition to starter, battery connections etc. We do notice that now the Gen light on the dash seems dim when it used to be bright in the key on position other then that no blown fuses, burnt wires or anything else not working. If anyone has any ideas let us know thanks.
