South Side Machine lift/traction bars
Has anyone installed or come across South Side Machine lift traction bars. They are bolted to the stock bracket on the rear end housing and bolted to the leaf springs. Where there should be a bumper. This is a weird style. On camarocentral.com they are part number SUS-930. There's a picture of them and the write up if you're curious. They have been discontinued. We are thinking we need to take them off. This will be a driver. 1968 base coupe with a nice little 327. Someone was making an attempt to make it a dragster. We are trying to take back closer to stock. Thanks for your time. Julie
Thank you.....I think I need some "U" bolts to replace how they bolted them on. I'll take them off. Has drums all around so putting on discs in the front. New steering column. Someone installed the complete Classic Auto Air AC system, and it works. Wiring is funky so got a Painless 21 circuit coming. BTW when you're shopping don't rule out Walmart. Had the best price on the wiring. She's a beauty. Black with green Cameleon rally stripes - they change from green to blue to purple. Only rusted through on the floor pan in one spot and small enough to patch. New ring and pinion-the gears were lock up????? gears. The rear tire would stutter when you tried to turn. Also, not for the street and for a dragster. 20 years ago she would become a Pro Mod. Not near as fast Selemi and the others. Ah, those were the days....camping at the dragstrip. I'll try to post some pictures. We live 20 minutes from Bristol Raceway Thunder Valley....Love going up there for races.
New question..... We think the differential housing is actually for a mono leaf and now there's a multi leaf set installed. Still working through the modifications. So, is there a reference for ride height??? I'm looking for wheel well opening to center of axel? It sits too high and the springs might be the culprit. Also, weird there are 2 different size tires on her - front to rear???? Can't measure wheel opening to ground cause of before mentioned alterations. But.... even a rough wheel well to ground would give us a place to start. Thank Y'all
